Am I a Scholar Yet?

Thinking aloud about learning, teaching, scholarship and becoming.

I’ve spent years helping other people develop as educators. Now I’m turning some of that scholarly attention back on myself.

This is my space to think in public — about the things I’m learning, the questions I’m wrestling with, the practices I’m curious about, and what happens when an experienced academic developer becomes a doctoral researcher.

I’m not quite sure where this will take me.

That’s rather the point.

What I’m thinking about

Becoming a Scholar
What it means to move from experienced practitioner to emerging researcher — including the uncomfortable bits.

Learning & Teaching
Ideas, questions and reflections from a career spent thinking about how people learn and how educators develop.

Assessment
Flexible assessment, inclusive practice, feedback, grading and the things we sometimes make much more complicated than they need to be.

Inclusion
Thinking about whose experiences are centred, whose aren’t, and what inclusive educational practice might actually look like.

Educational Leadership
The messy, human business of leading change, developing people and figuring out who you are as a leader.

A scholarly sandbox

I’m using this space to work things out.

Some ideas might become conference presentations. Some might turn into SoTL projects, articles or parts of my EdD. Some might simply lead to a better question.

Not everything here will be polished.

Some of it will be me thinking aloud, changing my mind, testing an idea or admitting that I don’t understand something yet.

Because perhaps scholarship isn’t about having all the answers.

Perhaps it’s about becoming better at asking the questions.
